Abstract

A method is introduced to identify flow resistance due to friction, cavitating flow and fluid properties in fuel injection systems. For this procedure dynamic measurements are used and mathematical models are required for simulation of the physical phenomena. A strategy is described how to obtain optimum access to the different phenomena and how the mathematical part of the identification can be solved. The practical application of the method is demonstrated by an example. Success was achieved for identification of flow losses and fluid properties. The attempt to identify a cavitating state in injection nozzles failed because of simplifications in the physical models.
