Fuel Injection System Parameter Estimation

In this project the potential of certain 1-D models to capture the essential elements of dynamic pipe and orifice flow has been investigated. The crucial point is identifiability of parameters like geometry properties, flow loss, cavitation phenomena, velocity of sound and kinetic viscosity from measurements with diesel and dimethyl ether. The results obtained so far underline the feasibility of some models and show weaknesses of others. In the latter cases, we propose several improvements.

This project has been joint work with Herwig Ofner, financed by AVL List GmbH, Graz, Austria and supervised by Karl Kunisch at the Erzherzog Johann University Graz and the Technical University Berlin.

There are two main publications about it, my PhD thesis and an IMechE conference paper.
